February Goals Finished!

As you probably noticed…no Frugal Friday today.  I just didn’t have time to get the post ready.  My husband got back late last night with a car for our little Hannah.  Alright, she’s not that little…she’s 16.  But in my mind she’s still a baby.  And we’ve been driving it around all afternoon.  Frugal Friday will return next week.

I’m proud to say that I officially finished my February goals for a Lovely Year of Finishes!  Woohoo.   The second quilt didn’t exactly turn out as I expected but hey, it happens.  I can live with that.  After all, not every quilt is going to be perfect.  Heck, I don’t think any of them are ever perfect.  That’s part of the fun of quilting.

Here’s a look at it.

This is not my design but for the life of me I can’t remember the pattern and I pieced it several years ago.  The pattern has been “put up” which means I have no idea where it is.

You can see in this picture that I didn’t quilt the beige part.  I was going to but then I got lazy.  In reality, I wanted to get this one done so I could focus on the Texas Teardrops Quilt Along.  My mind was just not in finishing this one.  So, I did the bare minimum {there are no rules that say every square inch must be quilted} and called it good.

I love the backing.  It’s a Hoffman Fabrics batik.  Oh so pretty.

And one crooked picture just because.

I’m glad I finished my February goals.  Now I can focus on the Texas Teardrops Quilt Along.  I’m super excited to get it started.  I hope lots of you will join in the fun.  I think mom and I finally have the templates lined out after two full days of emailing back and forth.  Everything is falling into place.  Yay!

I hope you all have a great weekend!

  1. The colours aren’t normally colours that draw me in, but I love what you have done with this quilt. It looks amazing.
I know exactly what you mean when you say you did the bare minimum quilting, that’s what I’m doing on my current quilt, I just want it finished.

  2. It is just lovely! I can’t wait to see what you have planned for the QAL! And I’m totally cool with no frugal friday this week because I’ve been gone all day and I would have missed out 🙂 LOL

  3. I agree with Marg. Not my colors but I like it! Oh, and Vicki ….it’s ok that you didn’t quilt every square inch. I promise that the Quilt Police won’t come arrest you. ;o) lol Often less is more anyway. And sometimes you just have a need to “get on” with something else. Believe me I know that feeling!
Oh, I hope I feel there is time for me to join your QAL! As I’ve mentioned several times that I’m soooo in love with Texas Teardrops. I think I literally drooled on my iPad the first few times I saw it. roflol
    Have a great weekend!

  4. Looks beautiful Vicki and Hannah is going to have so much fun with her own car! Congrats on finishing your February goals already and can’t wait to hear more about the QAL!

  5. Congrats on getting done early! I am loving the quilt. It’s so pretty, and I really like the green border. I like how it brings out the other colors in the quilt 🙂 Thanks for sharing it with us!!!

  6. Hi Vicki! That pattern is called Jewel Box, though your big diamond shapes have a variation on the centre I haven’t seen before. Very nice! I love the colours and I like the way you quilted it too. I’m teaching a new quilter how to do the original jewel box and doing it myself too. She’s using solids & I’m using Serendipity by Kate Spain. Not sure what fabrics I’m going to use for my Texas Teardrops but looking forward to starting!

  7. That *is* a gorgeous backing. 🙂 And sometimes less is more with quilting, y’know? This looks great, and its open quilting will let it be super soft in its drape. Very pretty finish!
