A Little Quilting Going On

I spent most of my day today working on another quilt.  I loaded this quilt last week and just never started the actual quilting.  I’m not sure why.  I think I was just being lazy.  I’d like to think I have it half finished but in reality I don’t.  I might be 30% finished.

I’m not sure I’m going to like this one.

Sorry for the less than stellar cell phone picture.  But you get idea.  I just love squiggly lines.  But….as usual I messed up the first 2 rows of diamonds.  I don’t really like what I did in the beginning and I’m not really excited to pick out a bunch of stitches.  So, this one might end up being a quilt for us.

When I made this top I really liked the colors but now it’s not my favorite.  It seems very dark.  I like bright colors.  Who knows…maybe once it’s finished I will like it.  I’ve learned that I don’t usually like the quilts when I’m working on them.  Once I finish them and pull them off the racks, I like them.  It’s very weird.

Am I the only one like that?  Do you love your projects from start to finish?  I start out loving them, it slowly turns to hatred, then I love them again.  Well, most of the time I love them again.  There’s always the exception to the rule {Mr. Fugly}.

Now for some exciting news…the Texas Teardrops Quilt Along has a tentative start date of April 1st!  I’m so excited about this and I hope you all are too.  And…I have some great prizes lined up from some awesome people!!!  I should have a button to share by Thursday or Friday.  I hope everyone will help me spread the word.

  1. Oh no, I usually hate my projects while I’m working on them. Not necessarily all the way through but at some stage in the process I wonder why I bothered starting them. Once I’ve persevered enough to finish them I usually love them again. I do have exceptions to the rule too. Some just never turn out how they were pictured in my head.

  2. I love everything when I begin. Sometimes I get frustrated during the process and then I don’t like it for a while, but can not think of anything I didn’t like when it was complete. I still love your Mr. Fugly! I keep thinking he will grow on you but you seem to have your heels dug in about that one. lol Is it the colors in Mr. F that you don’t like? They don’t seem your normal colors so maybe that’s why you aren’t in love with him. I like bright colors too so am surprised I like him as much as I do.
Enjoy the rest of our week!

  3. If there is a place I’m going to lose the love it’s midway… usually I’m second guessing my fabric choices. Or when I start assembling the blocks I’m seeing too much of one color in a scrappy quilt and get discouraged.

Most of the time, when I’m sewing down the binding, I fall back into love!

  4. I am the same way. When I am working on something I usually think that it isn’t going to turn out very good, but then when it is finished it is just fine. I think this quilt will turn out ok. 🙂

  5. I love the idea of a new project. I love starting the new project. I like doing it for 1 day. Then I hate the project. Next comes putting it off for long bouts of time. then I hate working on it.When finally finished I love it…

  6. Hmmm. I have a personality crisis with clothing but not usually with quilting. An outfit I might have loved last week I think looks terrible this week. I generally seem to like the quilts the entire way through the process. Hopefully this one will grow on you. If not, donate it. They won’t notice your stitiching, just the love.

  7. I’m usually over the moon and anxious to begin a project, and fizzle about halfway through. Then, if I don’t dislike it so much that I tuck it into a corner, I muddle through…and by the time it’s done, I’m loving it again!
It’s that way with all my craft projects.

I think it might have to do with my too high of an expectation, and disappointment when the vision I had in my head doesn’t match what’s in front of my eyes.

  8. It is hard for me to stay focused on one project at a time, but, I try really hard to. What I find “fugly” for myself at times, is something someone else loves. It’s all a matter of perspective I suppose?

  9. I have times when I hate a project and then hopefully it gets better…..I think your quilting looks good Vicki! Texas Teardrops QAL, sounds like fun!!
