Happy Monday everyone. I’m enjoying the first day of summer break and wondering how long it will be before my kids are screaming that they are bored.
I finished quilting a very special baby quilt about a month ago but I couldn’t share because it was a present. Today I can finally share with you because it’s been given to the intended recipient.
This one is special for lots of reasons. First of all, it is the very first quilt my sister, Kathy, has ever pieced. I think you will be completely impressed with how great she did. And she didn’t pick an easy pattern, she had tons of points to match up and they all look awesome.
She entrusted me to quilt this beautiful quilt and I didn’t want to let her down. I decided to do something extremely scary and I quilted feathers in the borders. That was a first for me. I think they turned out pretty fantastic and it’s an added bonus that the fabric kind of hides the feathers. That means my boo-boos are harder to spot. Don’t you like how that worked out? I sure do.
You can see the double feather I quilted in the black and white border. In the small pink border I quilted a half feather.
This was also the first time I ever turned a quilt on my frame to do the side borders. I knew I wouldn’t be able to quilt feathers on the sides without turning it. I have to say it worked out pretty good and it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be.
I quilted all over swirls on the main part of the quilt. I wanted something simple since it’s a baby quilt. I didn’t want to over quilt it.
Kathy even did the binding all by herself. Mom had to instruct her but she did all the sewing. That was another first for her. Yet again, she did a fantastic job. I wonder when she will get started on her second quilt???
As you can see from the pictures, Sarah and baby Jadyn love it. I’m so proud of Kathy. She did a fantastic job on her first quilt. And I’m rather proud of my feathers. All in all, this one was a huge success!
I hope you all enjoyed my show and tell. I know it’s been awhile since I’ve shared my quilting. I have two quilts coming on Tuesday from mom that have to be quilted before I go to Missouri to visit. I don’t have a lot of time to get them finished. I’ll be a busy bee all of June.
Have a great Monday! I’m working on lots of upcoming projects. Lots of fun projects!
