Today’s #igquiltfest2021 prompt is recent finish. This isn’t exactly finished yet but it’s actually a project for me so I wanted to share. I need a new couch quilt so I took 2 wide backs, appliquéd on one, and threw it on Mr. Heckles for the finishing touches.

I hand cut all the letters because I’m not fancy and don’t own a fabric cutter. So I did it old school and it sucked. 🤣🤣

And another custom quilt is finished!! Woohoo. So this one was lots of ruler work. Lots and lots of ruler work. Lots. And. Lots. And. Lots. And. Lots. 🤣🤣🤣

I wanted to frame the center with long diagonal lines and then added just a tiny touch of ribbon candy ever so often in the corners. The long lines cross over each other at the bottom and on the right side. I love the crosshatch effect that was created. I had to baste the quilt down really well so I could roll back and forth to do the diagonal lines. That was not an easy, or quick, task. So much rolling.

The center was achieved with lots of straight lines that follow the angles of the fabric strips. I randomly spaced the lines to create lots of overlapping texture. The name of this piece is Empty Bird Nest by @suzannecmayfield. I think the quilting does a nice job representing twigs crossing over one another.

This beauty has a double layer of @hobbsbatting 80/20 black batting. I used mostly dark charcoal INNOVATech thread with a smattering of chocolate brown thread in the corners. Make sure to swipe to see a before (not yet quilted) picture for comparison.

I’m going to play catch up today and post about yesterday’s #igquiltfest2021 prompt...lessons learned. I learned a very important lesson recently. Slow down. When I’m feeling overwhelmed and trying to bust out quilts, I should....slow down. Did you all notice anything fun about the first picture? Did you see the dog bone front and center on a cat quilt?!? 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ Yep. I did that. I quilted paws and dog bones all over a cat quilt.

Here’s the sad part. After the fact, I remember saying things like “the dog bone is too big. We need to make the bone smaller. How big is the dog bone now?” Ugh. Really? How many times could one person mention the design element that does not match the quilt and STILL quilt it?!? Do you wanna know when I saw it? Right after I hit send to text a picture to the quilt owner. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ As soon as I saw it I started freaking out. And Hannah couldn’t figure out what was going on. Then I basically screamed “I QUILTED DOG BONES ALL OVER A CAT QUILT!!” And right at that moment my customer replied and said “is that a dog bone on the quilt??” Why yes...yes it is!! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

I felt so bad. So so bad. I offered her several options to make it right and we landed on ripping it all out and re-quilting with the correct design. She was a bit worried about residual holes but I assured her I could do it. And I did. It took several days to rip out the quilting but it was the right thing to do. In the end the quilt turned out great. And I learned an important lesson....SLOW DOWN! Rushing the process trying to work ultra fast ended up costing me so much time and energy.

I think day 6 of #igquiltfest2021 is my fave!! I love solids. I love quilting quilts that are made solely of solids. I love designing quilts made of solids. I do love a good print too but as a longarm quilter I simply love seeing all the details of the quilting. Solids are the perfect way to showcase the quilting. ❤️❤️❤️

I finished this one yesterday! It took longer than I expected because of all the ruler work and ditching around the skinny strips of fabric. But...it was totally worth it. I love how it turned out. They quilting is a bit all over the place but it works. The piece of art was made by @suzannecmayfield and I’m so honored that she asked me to quilt it.

We used a double layer of @hobbsbatting black batting. I used mostly black thread and threw in some dark teal and green that matches her fabric. This was all ruler work except for the circles and occasional ribbon candy.

Ok so I figured I’d jump on the #igquiltfest2021 train. I’m positive I’ll miss days because that’s just who I am. 😂😂 But I’m gonna try to do my best. That’s me with my buddy Chester, my @innovalongarm M24, working on a custom quilt several months ago. My expression says it all. Yesterday I was finally able to start working on this custom art piece for @suzannecmayfield. I’m loving it so far and hope to finish on Tuesday. If you swipe through the pics you’ll see that I added some fun thread work in turquoise to play off the piecing. Can’t wait to finish so I can see the whole piece.

So I have a question for you guys regarding my IG posts. Hannah and I have differing ideas of what I should post. I really want to create posts that speak to who I am and include more than just quilting stuff. Hannah thinks I should keep it more business like and not share pics of the puppies or things about my health journey. I understand her point of view but disagree. I *think* you guys want to know more about me and not just quilting. But maybe I’m wrong. So the question is...do you have an opinion as to whether this should be strictly quilting related business? Or do you enjoy the occasional off topic post? Obviously puppy and health posts won’t be a focus just an occasional tangent. Thoughts? Be honest...I really want to share things that interest you guys. 😁😁

Oh hi there! I’m just over here peeking at all $Oh hi there! I’m just over here peeking at all of you...and wishing I would one day wake up and be my ideal healthy weight and have a normal back. 🤓🤣 Do you all remember when I used to workout like a maniac and then I was a dumba$$ clutz and superman’d off our stairs and fractured my spine and working out became a thing of the past because my doctor wouldn’t even let me do physical therapy. So all the gains I made flew out the window basically over night and just walking was a challenge. Fun times, right? Well, in December I decided it was time to get back on the working out train. And let me tell you....it sucked!!! And it still sucks!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 It’s so much easier to be a lazy slug and cuddle with the couch. It’s been 2 months and I haven’t quit even though I’d love to. I go to Orange Theory 3 times a week where they try to kill me. Luckily they haven’t succeeded...yet. It’s so hard. So hard. My back probably won’t ever be normal so I have to modify just about everything but I guess that’s ok. I’d just like all of you to know that I HATE it but I go. I know it’s good for me. So I go. But I HAAAATE it. But the really exciting news is that I can now do pilates at home!! My wonderful hubby got me a fancy reformer that now lives in our bedroom. I actually do like pilates. I think it really helps my back more than anything so I’m going to add 3-4 days a week of pilates. So I’ll just be over here in Vegas all bitter about having to work out. I’m going to post about it occasionally because maybe you need a little motivation to move your body even if you hate doing it. We can be on the “I hate exercise but do it anyway” train together!! ❤️❤️🤪🤪$

Remember the huge tie dye quilt that I custom quilted?? Well I finally finished it!! Ok I finished it a couple weeks ago but forgot to post pics. 🤣🤣 Claudia did an amazing job dying the fabric. Make sure to swipe through the pics so you can see the whole piece. I used rulers in the center to create a mandala and then did some graffiti type quilting all around it. This was a beast to quilt but I love how it turned out.
