Are you ready for my block?  I’m calling it Seeing Stars.  My block ended up being a paper pieced pattern that might look intimidating but I promise it’s doable.

Seeing Stars

You can find a copy of my Seeing Stars pattern here.  Just a reminder that my pattern assumes you know how to paper piece.  I haven’t included any general paper piecing instructions.

A close up of the center

The best part of this block is what happens when you put several together.  Here’s a couple layouts showing four 12″ blocks sewn together.  I just love the secondary pattern it creates.

I hope you love my pattern.  This was definitely a labor of love that didn’t really want to cooperate.  I think I made 4 test blocks before I finally found a block that works.

There’s also a wonderful opportunity to help out an awesome charity with this blog hop. Make an extra star block and donate it the The Linus Connection.

Jennifer from Sewhooked has been an active volunteer for The Linus Connection for over 10 years. She’s made and donated approximately 300 quilts to The Linus Connection since 2002, many of them made from orphan blocks donated by quilters from around the world.

The Linus Connection is a 501(c)(3) organization based in Austin, Texas whose mission is to make and deliver handmade security blankets for children in crisis situations in the Central Texas area. The blankets go to children in hospital emergency rooms, in crisis centers, in foster care, battered women’s shelters, to any child who is in need of a little extra security in their lives.

Contact Jennifer for mailing information at sewhooked@gmail.com or visit The Linus Connection blog to find out other ways you can help. https://thelinusconnection.org/

Now it’s time for a giveaway.  One lucky reader will win a copy of Marie’s book.  Just leave a comment and tell me your favorite book.  The giveaway will be open until May 12th at 11:59 PM CST.  Good Luck!

Don’t forget…There’s also a bonus giveaway if youcomplete the quilt top using the designer’s blocks and upload a photo to our Flickr group by September 1, 2013.  You’ll be entered to win an audio version of Marie’s new book. This version is due to be released sometime in September.

My all time favorite book is The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery. (Translated to English from French). I read this book translated to Norwegian, and it was a pure joy to read! The translator did a magnificent job, and the language was just flowing freely in a lively manner.
    Check this book out!

  14. I don’t get to read much. But when I do read it is a mystery. So anything like that is my favorite. Sorry I’m so boring.

  15. I definitely have to do this block! It is beautiful and showing the layout of 4 of the blocks compels me to accomplish a much larger version. Thank you, I know how much effort it takes to put together such a wonderful block – Believe me we all appreciate it!
I too do not read as much as I should, quilting has been the main way I relax and Zone out from the world around me. Ann Rand – my favorite author, my favorit book of hers: Atlas Strugged – no wonder why I need to use complicated quilting to soften my world.
    Much APPRECIATION,

It’s my favorite sew far!

  38. Wow, that is such a beautiful block. i am so impressed. My favorite book is The Secret Garden, but I really did enjoy all the Harry Potter series when they came out. Our kids were the perfect age for enjoying the books and the release parties at the book stores, so it was always a big deal to stay up to 12:00 and get the newest book and start reading right away. I probably wouldn’t have read them but we used to read to the kids before betimes, and I only would get 1/2 of the chapter as my dh would read the other half, so I just had to read the whole book to understand what was going on!

  39. My favorite book is “A People and Their Quilts” by John Rice Irwin. It has stories of folks from where I grew up and lots of photos of old quilts. No patterns, but if you find a quilt you like it’s not hard to find the pattern on the internet.
