Throw Nothing Away

I thought I would share some projects I have been working on the past couple of weeks.  Yes 99% involves the grand kids.  I bet Vicki is happy she gets the night off from blogging {she better be sewing}.
The first project I’m going to show you is the reason for the title of this post.  First a little history.  Our daughter, Kathy, lives near us and she needed some pants cut off to make Capri’s.  I stuck the bottom of the pants back just in case.  {You all know how that goes}  I thought I might be able to use them some day.  Well this is what became of one of them…a little purse for our granddaughter, Claudia!
A funny little sidebar to this story…a while back I was making or looking for something for her and I could not use green in any way.  She told me she just didn’t like green.  How things change over time.  Now she can’t get enough green and neon green is even better.
Next I was going to make her a skirt and a top.  Which I might add turned into 2 skirts, 1 top, 1 decorated t-shirt (not finished yet) and a pair of shorts.  Funny how that happens!!!  In fairness to Claudia, some of that might have been my idea.
This is the skirt and top that started the whole thing.
You can’t tell from the picture but the skirt is ruffled fabric we found at one of our local fabric shops.  It was her favorite thing she found because it was Green.  As usual I purchased to much fabric for the top so that gave her another outfit with some shorts.
I love sewing for kids I made a size 10 no alterations. You gotta love that!
At this point I’m feeling pretty bad because her older brother is liking everything and I said I would gladly make him something.  He kind of snickered and said that’s ok Nana.  He thought about it and said, I know what you can make me.  He has a hard time finding sweat shirts with long enough sleeves unless they buy them way to big.  So he would like me to make him some that fit.  So looks like we have the beginning of fall projects.
Moving on, the twins had their second birthday in June and the birthday party was Alice in Wonderland theme.  So you guessed it!!!!!
Had to get them all fixed up with their new Alice in Wonderland birthday outfits.  Of course there is a little story that goes with them as well.  Vicki texted me and said do you have the outfits started and I said no.  Her comment was don’t you think you should be starting them??? I said something like I have time.  Well, I took a look at the calendar and figured out I only had a week.  Some how I lost a week.  I have yet to figure out where that week went.  So the race was on. I finished on Wednesday mailed them that afternoon with 15 minutes to spare before the post office closed.  That was a relaxing ride back home.  They got them on Friday and the party was Saturday. I might not do that again.
Kathy loves to cook but was tired of messing up her clothes. Yep that’s right a new apron for her.
This was last night.  She made dinner for us so she could use her new apron.
No complaints here!
Last but not least, I made myself something.  I had a friend over and we had a day of sewing and laughing.  This is what I ended up with. I’m very proud I got to make something and keep it.
This is a very cool pattern.  The handles come off very easily so you can make different purses and only need one set of handles.  You know what I’m going to be doing. I have all kinds of ideas for more new purses.
Well that’s the end of my saga for now.  I hope I didn’t lose you half way through.
I have another post for everyone I want to share in the next few days.  It involves my dear sweet husband, a quilt and a poem.  That should peak your interest!!
Have a very happy 4th.

  1. Oh I love posts of grandchildren! The little bag and clothes are so cute. I had two of my grandkids here and all we did was a few doll clothes. You are a super grandmother. My two girls wear 10 too. This is a great post Judy! You inspire me to get back to sewing.

  2. First talk on this blog just had to say I love the bag/purse but especially the handles. Never seen those before.
Also love quilt 4 I am a handsewing nut so could I copy the design. I don’t know how but would love to pin the block on Pinterest (if I can). Just love the way tram/train lines stop and the posy appears. If you have a better idea please let me know as Knew to this. I guess the size of the block would help too.
Love the batik apron as Bali is just a few hours north,it is a gentle Hindu island to support.
    Cheers
